One of Southern Gospel music’s most familiar family names will soon be appearing on concert stages much more often.
Goodman Revival has announced plans to significantly expand its touring schedule beginning March 31, 2027, opening additional dates for churches, concert promoters, conventions, theaters, festivals and special events throughout the United States.
The trio of Tanya Goodman Sykes, Michael Sykes and Johnny Minick carries forward a musical heritage closely connected with one of the most influential groups in Southern Gospel history, the Happy Goodman Family.
Tanya is the daughter of legendary singer and songwriter Rusty Goodman and began singing with the Happy Goodman Family as a teenager. Johnny Minick also has deep roots in the Goodman legacy, having performed with the group during different periods of its history, including its later years with Howard and Vestal Goodman. Michael Sykes is an accomplished musician and producer whose career has also been closely connected with Gospel music.
Taking the Goodman Sound Back on the Road
An important part of the expanded touring plans will be Goodman Revival’s commitment to performing with live musicians.
The group says its appearances will include a live band featuring experienced session players, allowing audiences to hear the familiar Goodman music in a live concert setting while maintaining the distinctive sound and energy associated with the group’s musical heritage.
For Southern Gospel listeners who remember the Happy Goodmans, that heritage is substantial.
Songs including “I Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey Now,” “Who Am I” and “Until You’ve Known the Love of God” became enduring Gospel favorites. Goodman Revival has continued introducing that music to another generation while putting its own musical identity on the songs.
New Goodman Revival Music Is Coming
The expanded touring schedule isn’t the group’s only announcement.
Goodman Revival is also preparing two future recording projects.
One will be a Christmas recording featuring a mixture of familiar seasonal music and new material performed in the group’s recognizable style.
A second project will return to the Goodman musical catalog, presenting classic songs with updated arrangements while also introducing newly written material. The goal, according to the group, remains both preserving the Goodman musical heritage and carrying its Gospel message to another generation.
That combination of old and new has been central to Goodman Revival from the beginning.
The trio’s debut recording, Songs in the Key of Happy, revisited music associated with the Happy Goodman Family, and its follow-up recording, Still Happy, continued that approach.
A New Chapter in a Familiar Story
The Happy Goodman Family helped shape the sound of Southern Gospel music. Their influence extended far beyond their recordings, and the family’s songs remain familiar in churches and Gospel concerts decades after many of them were first recorded.
Goodman Revival has never simply attempted to recreate the original group. Instead, Tanya Goodman Sykes, Michael Sykes and Johnny Minick have taken music they know personally and carried it forward in their own way.
Beginning in the spring of 2027, considerably more audiences should have an opportunity to hear them do it in person.
Churches, promoters and other organizations interested in hosting Goodman Revival for dates beginning after March 31, 2027, can find booking and contact information through the group’s official website.
